The Golden Call

Remember remember the fifth of November.......

The very next morning, after checking my online portal and receiving the 'you will be contacted' message i wake up to my phone ringing... its was the +971 digits which only means its DUBAI calling!!!! I compose myself for a second then answer, a lady asks for myself and i reply "Yes its me! Ive been waiting for your call!!" I can't believe i actually said that to her but i was just so excited i wanted to scream!! Ha anywayy she congratulates me and welcomes me to the Emirates Cabin Crew, I will be off to Dubai on the 11th January to start my new life. After we finished the phone call, I cried my eyes out! I just really couldn't believe it, it was a special moment after everything thats happened over that last few years with life and love and failing to get a worthwhile job I had finally done it and got one of the most amazing career i could only dream of. I was the only one at home that morning and everyone was at work so i couldn't tell my mum or sister! It was infuriating i wanted to tell the world! Finally that afternoon i told them all and had another big happy cry!! I couldn't believe all the friends that congratulated me of facebook either, it was really a nice feeling that everyone was happy for me!!

Roll on January 11th!!

You will be contacted...

On the 4th of November, a few weeks after sending off my final pictures I decided to go check my online portal to see the status of my application but I could no longer log on and I could just see this message in red writing...

"You will be contacted by your recruitment coordinator at the earliest."

AAAHHHH I felt like screaming! I'd been reading other Emirates hopefuls blogs and they had also received this message then they received the 'golden call' not so long after congratulating them!! The rest of that day I was going out of my mind thinking have I got it? Haven't I got it? Then at some stupid hour because I couldn't sleep I thought I'd type the red message into google and see what others said it meant... I found hundreds of blogs and forums telling me YES you have got the job!!! It was like 99.9% sure but I would just have to wait it out now for the phone call!!!

Final Interview (THE FI!)

So here it is... The Final Interview! My last chance to prove to them I am right for this job and they should pick me!! Ten minutes before the interview I found myself in the Emirates London headquarters lift going up and down twice trying to apply my red lipstick in the lift mirror and slipping into my heels! A delivery man got in on journey two and told me I looked gorgeous and not to worry...that probably just made me worry more and turn my cheeks the same colour as my lipstick.

Final interview outfit!

Anyway i digress, between the assessment day and FI we are asked to complete an online personality test i believe it was called a psychometrics test and bring with us (or email) various photographs of ourself; formal, passport and casual! The interview was meant to last about 45 to 50 minutes but mine only lasted about 30 minutes!! It was quite an intense interview of experience based questions but you are given time to think of an answer or scenario you can relate to in order to answer. You have to be quite specific when answering but if you have customer related previous experience you will be fine! For future applicants prior to interview I would recommend going over your career history and highlighting any time you worked with difficult customers or colleages or take note of when you went out of your way to help a customer etc...

After my interview I had no idea how I had done it was just the case of waiting 6 LONG WEEKS to find out!!! I think my recruitment officer must have known how much i wanted the job I told her I wasn't nervous about the interview I was just excited by this opportunity! She said it was refreshing ;)
Formal photograph..big thank you to Ceri for taking the pictures and letting me borrow her skirt and white wall!
Smiley passport pics with hair tied back (eughh not the most flattering photos i have to say)
Casual photo one!

Casual photo two (but this wasn't acceptable as i had sunglasses on!)
Official casual photo two!

Invitation to Preliminary Assessment..

So here I am, starting to blog about a journey which I never even imagined I would have the opportunity to do... It all started with an online application to Emirates Cabin Crew at the beginning of September and after waiting a couple of weeks, I received an email inviting me to a preliminary assessment day to be held at The Crowne Plaza Hotel, London on the 2nd of October. I want to go into detail about the assessment day because i know when i was applying i was up for hours searching the internet for blogs and advice so i could do my best! So here goes.....Dress code was as follows:

"Dress Code: Business Attire. Ladies - Knee length skirt / dress with skin colour stockings. Please tie your hair neatly behind."

So i wore a Versace for H&M black fitted dress with a Zara black blazer and an Issa silk scarf tied round my neck. I also tied my hair in a neat bun, painted my nails red with a little gold detail (i have a bit of a thing for nail art..) and wore the classic Emirates red lipstick which i would recommend to all future applicants! When i got to the assessment day i couldn't believe how many beautiful pristine girls there were in one room, and i felt a bit silly for going out the night before and probably not looking my best!! Anyway, we all waited in the foyer and once called in the the conference suite we were given a little form to fill out with our number for the day. We then were introduced to the company, asked as a group a few questions and then watched videos on Emirates and life in Dubai!!! After that we all sat in awe and excitement...REALLY want the job now!! We were then split up into groups to carry out the next tasks, luckily i was second so i had time to get a well needed coffee!

The next section of the day we had to do a reach test and team exercises which was nothing to worry about you just need to be confident and friendly! And remember to always smile!! After this we were sent out the room and it was a bit of a nerve racking time whilst we waited to see if we got through to the next stage of the assessment day! Luckily i did HOORAY! After another coffee break we did further team and role play exercises and speaking individually to the group whilst constantly being watched by the recruitment co-ordinators (who i must mention were really lovely and friendly). Once again we were asked to leave the room so they could make their decision about who gets through to final interview stage. This bit was so awful such a roller coaster of emotions just sat anxiously waiting out our fate!!!! But then we were called back in and i got through to final interview!! WOOHOOO! We were given our FI dates which were only a few days later at the London headquarters and given forms to fill out and photographs to bring with us to the next interview! AHH it was all very exciting and i was just so pleased to get through to final interview!
