The Dubai Stone

I am getting fat. I'm going to say Dubai is making me fat, but alas, its me. My eyes are bigger than my belly and i can't stop eating...especially on flights!!!! Ok so i may be exaggerating a bit when i say fat but i'm putting on weight. its this lifestyle!! When i moved here, there were all these roumers about 'the dubai stone' how you will put on a stone whilst living here. oh shiiiiiit I've already put on half a stone!!! Having said this, i did loose weight before i came here but honestly, I'm eating so unhealthy. When I'm on flights i eat a meal tray, (sometimes even two!!!) and i'll help myself to the magical 'dry stores' which is full of chocolates and biscuits all things delicious. Ohhh and the puddings. Shit its so bad. And thats just the flights, when I'm not working, I'm always out to dinner, or getting a take away. In fact, i just got a wagamama delivery. ON. MY. OWN...isnt that pathetic?! I've never ordered a takeaway on my own in my life!! Actually i don't think I've ever ordered a take away! It was taaaaassty though!!!! Ha i dunno what this particular blog is about I'm just having a moan cause my stomach is like a big bloated balloon. Its very sexy. Maybe i think that if i write it down for the world wide web to see (and my 26000 viewers...say whaaaaaat?!!) that i'll do something about this little (i mean big...fat) problem. If not, i'll just have to rename the blog 'Memoirs of a trolley wobbly'

Its brief but its personal as its notes from my travelling journal. Every layover I've had to date i stick my luggage tag in my diary and write a little bit about what i did! Hopefully you can read my messy hand writing.. (also had to blur out a few bits which i can't put on the internet sorry!!)

Happy

I have been a very bad blogger i'm sorry for neglecting you all!! I have been having the absolute time of my life!! I can say without a doubt moving to Dubai and working for Emirates has so far been one of the best decisions I've ever made! The lifestyle that i have now is great, I love flying, the job is fun and i enjoy the social side of it working with loads of like minded individuals and also the passengers have been a pleasure! And then, after the work is over i stay in 4 star hotels all over the world and explore new places!! Not to mention all the time off i get in Dubai to go out, see friends and most importantly tan my pale british skin ha!! It really is such a great job and i am very happy!! So i'd say for anyone reading this, unsure about wether to take the big step to move to Dubai and work for Emirates...DO IT!!! Give it a go, travel the world and then if its not for you, you can always leave! Anyway... let me show you where I've been so far.....

I've Finished Aviation College!!

Wow I can't believe i've finally finished training!! Feel like I've been training forever and now its suddenly over! The last two weeks have been service training which is certainly was very different to SEP, GMT and Security training!! We had two theory exams which are computer based and we also have practical tests on the simulators where we do "flights" to London Heathrow, Ahmedabad and Sydney. They are actually a lot of fun, we serve our colleges as we would any passenger, serve them drinks (no alcohol obviously!!), hot meals, snacks, afternoon tea, croissants and all that jazz....!!

In the galley!!

My First Roster!

This weekend I got my first roster for when i start flying in March!! SO EXCITING!! My first two flights will be supy flights where I go on both A380 and B777. On soupy flights you work as more of an assistant so you can see how everything works and help out if the other crew need anything! Then thats it all your flights following this will be operational! EEEK not long now!!
Ok so without further ado, my supy flights will be to Dhaka in Bangladesh (turnaround) and Munich (layover). My operational flights for March will be Paris, Munich, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and London Heathrow!!! Yeaaaah so excited to go back home to see my family and friends and get more of my belongings to bring out to Dubai! Also whats exciting about my LHR flight is that I'm 'deadheading' on it, so this means i will be travelling as a passenger one way and working the return (or vice versa)! and fingers crossed if I'm lucky my mum and sister will be on the same return flight to Dubai with me!! Only 5 days left of training college now!

Insane weekends

Every weekend I have spent in Dubai has been endless fun (...except for the hangovers). The nightlife here is awesome, so many clubs to go to with all different types of music. and the parties arnt just limited to the night either, actually i'd say the parties are even better in the day!! I want to tell you about my weekend two weeks ago...It was just amazing. We started off at Habtoor Hotel XL Beach club for a pool party. Chilling by the pool with all the girls, suns out, music playing, attractive people in every direction and free unlimited drinks! Being a girl in Dubai certainly has its advantages! The pool party ended up being an all day all night event - we left the pool early evening to go back to our apartments and change, then back to the hotel for a meal and back to the pool area to continue the drinks and dancing! Such an awesome day! The next day we were invited to watch the Silver Cup Polo Championships which was so lovely. I'd never been to a polo game before so was pretty snazzy to be chauffeured there and back with all my girlfriends. Later in the evening we went to a sushi restaurant just behind the Sheikh Zayed road called Zuma which was faaaaaabulous. We had endless cocktails and the chefs selection of sushi and after the meal we all went to a club called Crystal in a porsche! Crystal was super packed but we had a table and drinks so i was just happy enough dancing! It was pretty crazy I'm not used to nights like this! But i could certainly get used to it haha!  Oh yeah and also we went to an after party at the Ritz! All the clubs in Dubai close at 3am. Its pretty annoying its so early but everyone just seems to go back to each others apartments for after parties so its alright in the end! The Ritz was great our 'aquaintance' (ha) had a suite so we continued the drinking and ordered a load of room service!! You'd think that that weekend would be hard to top but this weekend was just as fun! I went to Zinc the Thursday night, to Barasti Beach with all my batch mates on Friday,  Dinner at Buddha Bar in the evening drinking endless Moet, followed by Embassy nightclub and back to the after party in a suite at the Grosvenor House! I also went to the Palm for the first time this weekend to Atlantis and this great beach club called Nasimi Beach (it was like Nikki Beach in St Tropez, everything white and just cool as fuck). Later on in the day i met up with my bestie and went shopping at the Emirates mall and bought a few things in the Zara sale! Another perfect weekend then it was back to the aviation college for the Noujoum Day 'Star Day' in Arabic... (don't ask ha), Image and uniform day and security training. Alotta lotta fun! My final day of security training is tomorrow then I'm on my final two week stint of service training!! Then thats it!!! I'll be cabin crew flying the sky, isn't that marvellous/crazy?! Cant wait :) x

GMT

Little bit delayed with my posts sorry guys i'm too busy having an amazing time!!! The weekends are far to short!! Anyway last week I had Group Medical Training, really enjoyed learning about different medical emergencies and the week went so quickly. Part of the medical training we learnt how to diagnose a casualty from knowing certain signs and symptoms and what they mean, perform CPR, Deliver a baby (and the placenta), inject a casualty with an Epipen when having an anaphylactic reaction, dealing with a choking passenger, understanding different types of bleeding and what to do in these situations, how to bandage wounds, fractures, breaks the list goes on....!! The final theory exam for GMT was fine, i didn't find it hard or have to revise much (especially compared to SEP) it was just a case of learning a lot of medical terminology and what each medication is used for. Also locations of each medication/equipment on the aircraft! A little confusing but its just something you have to learn and know by heart so that in a medical emergency you can act fast and efficiently!

I feel like a Trolley Dolly!!!

I got my uniform!!! Ive been waiting for this day and it was so exciting getting my suitcase (Samsonite one verrry nice!) filled with all my new uniform! Couldn't wait to get home and try it on and here it is!! Vanity at its best but i don't care i love my new uniform! Its all starting to feel real now! Also I'm currently medical training and today i learnt how to deliver a baby! I was so looking forward to this part of the training its always fascinated me! And i was picked to deliver the placenta! Really very interesting would be so cool to put my new skills into real life! Just on an aeroplane its not so ideal!!!
Anyway, pictures......

Finished SEP!

FINALLY!! SEP training felt like it went on forever! Although it was very interesting i'm happy to be onto Group Medical Training (GMT) now! On the last day of SEP we practiced wet ditching procedures so we went on the life raft in the pool and practiced putting up the raft canopy and then in getting in the freezing pool with our inflated lifejackets and practicing certain float positions! Brrrrr....
We also evacuated the A380 upper deck which was super high but a lot of fun! I fell over at the end because of the sleep you go at haha!!
