18 days to go...

Time is going so quickly now! I have been so busy with Christmas festivities that i now have less than 3 weeks to go and i'm not ready at all!! I still need to do all my shopping for the big move but i figured i'd do that in the sales and I really need to get serious about completing the workbook! Once Christmas is out the way then it will be all go go go!!! Very exciting but nervous times! This morning i checked my online portal and my accommodation is in progress now! This is what I'm thinking about the most now, I just really want to be placed with my new Emirates friends that I have made through the Emirates January DOJ Facebook group! I cannot recommend highly enough to anyone that is joining Emirates to join your months Facebook group!! My group has been SO AMAZING and so helpful when i have a question or when i just want to share something Emirates related! Everyone has been so lovely and I have already met some special people through it which I just can tell will be the best of friends! We already have plans for the beach on the first day!! Dubai see you in 18 days!!!!

Keep calm and...

Back in October I was having a bit of a shit time. I was getting over break up, I had no idea what I was going to do with my life and I was applying for so many jobs and just wasn't getting anywhere. So, overall it was a little bit depressing.

Anyway, after one of my interviews I popped into town for a bit of shopping and a man in the street stopped me. I don't know why I stopped as I usually wouldn't but he caught me at a weak moment as i was in a bit of a fluster after this certain interview! Turns out he was a charity guy selling key rings and as i was kinda put on the spot I felt i had to buy one!! As i walked away - keyring in hand - I felt like welling up!! It was really bizarre as it was just a stupid keyring and I am not the emotional sort but the words on it struck a cord.

"KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON"

I guess I was feeling a bit deflated and exhausted from everything that had happened in the last month or so and this was just a little message to let me know that everything was going to be okay. And you know what.... it was!!! It was just 2 weeks later I got a very special ''GOLDEN CALL" which i'm sure is going to change my life forever!

I guess everything happens for a reason!

Meet Tinky...

Meet this tiny little adorable kitty called Tinky! She is the bravest most precious cat in the world and we just adopted her from Cyprus!! About a month ago my Mum went to Larnaca on holiday to visit a friend and when exploring the abandoned city of Vikla she heard a kitten crying and found her scared and hiding in a tree! The cat lover that my Mum is, she rescued her from the tree and immediatly just wanted to take her home! As we live over 2000 miles away this did seem a bit crazy and impossible but it broke my Mums heart to leave there. So, once Mum came back to the UK, her friend agreed to look after Tinky until we could sort out getting her a cat passport(!!!!) and arrange to fly her home to us! Finally, after she had all her vaccines (she's like me!!) we popped her on a flight to London Heathrow and here she is!!! She was a little scared at first but now she is all settled in and we love her!! The hard thing now is that i will be leaving her in 29 days to go to Dubai!!!! Isn't she just absolutely gorgeous?!

Oh the joys of photoshop...

Hahahahahahaha shit i really need to get a life....

My fashion degree came in handy for something...

On the very first flight to Dubai it specifies "a groomed, clean, tidy and smart appearance is necessary while travelling. Denims are not allowed" So, bearing this in mind I have been a very busy bee and put my fashion skills to work and made a dress to wear on the plane! The dress is nothing fancy but it will be smart and comfy enough for the seven hour flight and its always nice to wear something you've made entirely from scratch!

Pattern cutting the dress! Had this fabric for ages so I'm glad it went to good use! Its like a thick jersey.

Half finished! Checking the fit on the mannequin..

Voila! Dress complete :) What do you think?!

Medicals medicals medicals

So as you can guess from the title I am currently undergoing all the various medical procedures that have to be completed before I go to Dubai!! Ive got the dental out the way now woohooo! I had to have two fillings which was fine but cost me an absolute bomb with all the appointments! And Ive completed my medical examinations and received my final acceptance to join the Emirates cabin crew! Yay. I now just have to get all my vaccinations complete! AAHHH injections! So here is the long list of jabs i have to get so I can fly all over the world....

Polio
Diphtheria
Tetanus
Typhoid
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
MMR (Mumps, Measles, Rubella)
Yellow Fever
Menningococcal ACWY
Varicella

Ive had most of them now but some of the vaccinations require 3 jabs over a period of time GREAT. And In the UK at the moment there is a shortage of Menningococcal meningitis and MMR. FANTASTIC. I swear my life right now is just appointment after appointment.

The Golden Call

Remember remember the fifth of November.......

The very next morning, after checking my online portal and receiving the 'you will be contacted' message i wake up to my phone ringing... its was the +971 digits which only means its DUBAI calling!!!! I compose myself for a second then answer, a lady asks for myself and i reply "Yes its me! Ive been waiting for your call!!" I can't believe i actually said that to her but i was just so excited i wanted to scream!! Ha anywayy she congratulates me and welcomes me to the Emirates Cabin Crew, I will be off to Dubai on the 11th January to start my new life. After we finished the phone call, I cried my eyes out! I just really couldn't believe it, it was a special moment after everything thats happened over that last few years with life and love and failing to get a worthwhile job I had finally done it and got one of the most amazing career i could only dream of. I was the only one at home that morning and everyone was at work so i couldn't tell my mum or sister! It was infuriating i wanted to tell the world! Finally that afternoon i told them all and had another big happy cry!! I couldn't believe all the friends that congratulated me of facebook either, it was really a nice feeling that everyone was happy for me!!

Roll on January 11th!!

You will be contacted...

On the 4th of November, a few weeks after sending off my final pictures I decided to go check my online portal to see the status of my application but I could no longer log on and I could just see this message in red writing...

"You will be contacted by your recruitment coordinator at the earliest."

AAAHHHH I felt like screaming! I'd been reading other Emirates hopefuls blogs and they had also received this message then they received the 'golden call' not so long after congratulating them!! The rest of that day I was going out of my mind thinking have I got it? Haven't I got it? Then at some stupid hour because I couldn't sleep I thought I'd type the red message into google and see what others said it meant... I found hundreds of blogs and forums telling me YES you have got the job!!! It was like 99.9% sure but I would just have to wait it out now for the phone call!!!

Final Interview (THE FI!)

So here it is... The Final Interview! My last chance to prove to them I am right for this job and they should pick me!! Ten minutes before the interview I found myself in the Emirates London headquarters lift going up and down twice trying to apply my red lipstick in the lift mirror and slipping into my heels! A delivery man got in on journey two and told me I looked gorgeous and not to worry...that probably just made me worry more and turn my cheeks the same colour as my lipstick.

Final interview outfit!

Anyway i digress, between the assessment day and FI we are asked to complete an online personality test i believe it was called a psychometrics test and bring with us (or email) various photographs of ourself; formal, passport and casual! The interview was meant to last about 45 to 50 minutes but mine only lasted about 30 minutes!! It was quite an intense interview of experience based questions but you are given time to think of an answer or scenario you can relate to in order to answer. You have to be quite specific when answering but if you have customer related previous experience you will be fine! For future applicants prior to interview I would recommend going over your career history and highlighting any time you worked with difficult customers or colleages or take note of when you went out of your way to help a customer etc...

After my interview I had no idea how I had done it was just the case of waiting 6 LONG WEEKS to find out!!! I think my recruitment officer must have known how much i wanted the job I told her I wasn't nervous about the interview I was just excited by this opportunity! She said it was refreshing ;)
Formal photograph..big thank you to Ceri for taking the pictures and letting me borrow her skirt and white wall!
Smiley passport pics with hair tied back (eughh not the most flattering photos i have to say)
Casual photo one!

Casual photo two (but this wasn't acceptable as i had sunglasses on!)
Official casual photo two!

Invitation to Preliminary Assessment..

So here I am, starting to blog about a journey which I never even imagined I would have the opportunity to do... It all started with an online application to Emirates Cabin Crew at the beginning of September and after waiting a couple of weeks, I received an email inviting me to a preliminary assessment day to be held at The Crowne Plaza Hotel, London on the 2nd of October. I want to go into detail about the assessment day because i know when i was applying i was up for hours searching the internet for blogs and advice so i could do my best! So here goes.....Dress code was as follows:

"Dress Code: Business Attire. Ladies - Knee length skirt / dress with skin colour stockings. Please tie your hair neatly behind."

So i wore a Versace for H&M black fitted dress with a Zara black blazer and an Issa silk scarf tied round my neck. I also tied my hair in a neat bun, painted my nails red with a little gold detail (i have a bit of a thing for nail art..) and wore the classic Emirates red lipstick which i would recommend to all future applicants! When i got to the assessment day i couldn't believe how many beautiful pristine girls there were in one room, and i felt a bit silly for going out the night before and probably not looking my best!! Anyway, we all waited in the foyer and once called in the the conference suite we were given a little form to fill out with our number for the day. We then were introduced to the company, asked as a group a few questions and then watched videos on Emirates and life in Dubai!!! After that we all sat in awe and excitement...REALLY want the job now!! We were then split up into groups to carry out the next tasks, luckily i was second so i had time to get a well needed coffee!

The next section of the day we had to do a reach test and team exercises which was nothing to worry about you just need to be confident and friendly! And remember to always smile!! After this we were sent out the room and it was a bit of a nerve racking time whilst we waited to see if we got through to the next stage of the assessment day! Luckily i did HOORAY! After another coffee break we did further team and role play exercises and speaking individually to the group whilst constantly being watched by the recruitment co-ordinators (who i must mention were really lovely and friendly). Once again we were asked to leave the room so they could make their decision about who gets through to final interview stage. This bit was so awful such a roller coaster of emotions just sat anxiously waiting out our fate!!!! But then we were called back in and i got through to final interview!! WOOHOOO! We were given our FI dates which were only a few days later at the London headquarters and given forms to fill out and photographs to bring with us to the next interview! AHH it was all very exciting and i was just so pleased to get through to final interview!
